How do I get started becoming a better Bible teacher?

Q. Hi there! I am DESPERATE to be taught by sound teachers how to study God’s Word to the point that I would teach it to a small group as well. I’ve listened to many podcasts from “How to Teach the Bible” on workshops that are held for women on how to study God’s Word rightly. But, it seems that none of them are near me. I found an online course through Simeon Trust—First Principles (Women). Would that be a good place for me to start? If so, what should my next step be?

A. I’m glad you’re listening to Help Me Teach the Bible! One of the best ways to grow as a teacher is to listen to those who do it well. But don’t listen passively. Listen for the way they set up their message, how they organize it, how they use humor, how they go in and out of the passage, and what they call their listeners to be and do. Yes, do the Simeon Trust online course that is only $19 and is solid gold. But don’t do it by yourself. Try to get a friend to do it with you so you can talk about it and help each other. Then look for a Simeon Trust women’s workshop you can attend. Get on their list so you will know when registration opens and can get in before it fills up.
