I went to Bogota, Colombia for ten days in June, 2012 and spoke all over the city, including to the women in the Bogota Women's Jail. I told them that I know their greatest pain comes
from being separated from their children, that I know a little about being separated from my children, and that God was willing to be separated from his son on the cross so he will not have to be separated from his children forever.

I spoke in three services at a church in Villavicencia, Colombia that borders the jungle where I met many people who have had family members kidnapped and returned dead or never heard from again.

Praying for women in prison in Colombia where you are guilty until proven innocent. They wanted me to pray for their release. I prayed that they would experience true freedom on the inside whether or not they are released from the prison.

Can you see the blue dot in the middle of this picture? That's me on one of the highest ziplines in the world zipping across a deep canyon in Colombia. I can't believe I did it!

We hold our Respite Retreats at a beautiful lodge called The Hiding Place outside Nashville owned by Christian Leadership Concepts.

Our first Respite Retreat, held Labor Day Weekend 2009, brought together 12 grieving couples who became fast friends.

Matt graduated from Christ Presbyterian Academy in May, 2009 and is headed to Western Kentucky University to study sports journalism.

Good friends who gathered with us at the grave to mark ten years since Hope's death helped to turn a bitter thing into something sweet.

Matt, who served as student assistant coach, saying a few words at the senior recognition for the CPA basketball team.

Debbie Evans of Wildwood Church in Tallahassee, Florida sent me this photo of her Bible study group who studied Hoping for Something Better.

We dressed up like old ladies to celebrate my friend, Angela's 50th birthday. I'm the lovely gray-haired doll on the back far right. Got my lovely polyester vest at the Goodwill store.

My friends came over for an impromptu birthday lunch so I could give them copies of Dinner Table Devotions & Discussion-Starters. I've decided I like inviting my friends over on my birthday and giving them a gift. That's a great day.

David and I signing copies of “When Your Family's Lost a Loved One” at the International Christian Retail Show. My favorite moment was when a Korean man came through the line and told me that he is the publisher of
“Holding On to Hope” in Korean, which is beautifully done on translucent paper. It was sweet to look him in the eyes and thank him for making it so beautiful.

My parents took us, along with my siblings and their families on an Aslaskan cruise to celebrate their 50th anniversary where were enveloped in stunning natural beauty. Not exactly a glamour shot here but we had a great time one
day hiking a trail outside of Skagway, Alaska in the rain.

My aunt Nancy, after whom I am named but rarely get to see, came on the cruise with us.

My best buddies Wendy Martin and Sue Johnson at a party they put on to celebrate the release of Hoping for Something Better and its dedication to the women of my church.

With my friend, Carmen, at her first speaking engagement following the accident in June, 2007 which has left her paralyzed below the waist but fully alive in spirit.

I took 15 women from my church down to Bay St. Louis, MS for a women's conference/work weekend during which 130 women planted flowers and shrubs around houses that have been rebuilt since Katrina. Honestly,
it seems like we had way too much fun for this to be called ministry.

Christian Leadership Concepts, a men's small group ministry, put together a pilot group in Nashville for launching the small group ministry for women. This is the group of women I'm committed to meet with every Wednesday morning for the next three years.

David and I were interviewed for Joni & Friends TV. A DVD of the episode is available for purchase at www. Joniandfriendstv.com. People who have heard me talk about our experience with Hope and Gabe told me they especially loved hearing David talk about it.

I dedicated The One Year Book of Hope to three important people—my Bible professor from John Brown University, Dr. James Walters, my friend and mentor and BSF Teaching Leader, Sue Johnson, and my pastor,
Ray Ortlund, Jr. It was a thrill to have them over for dinner (and have Dr. Walters join us by phone) and surprise them by reading the dedication to them.
